MerzBox An Old Fairy Tale
I have been asked to create a response to the story An Old Fairy Tale written by Kurt Schwitters. This story portrays an Ironic situation of where the protagonist good deeds do more harm than good where in real life a hero’s actions are rewarded but not in this story. Frederick Peace was going through the forest and encounters five birds who have been transformed into their present state by a sorceress, Frederick asks how to set them free and it ends up being gruesome list of tasks that ends up getting him killed in the process. Frederick was in a manipulated situation where everything was blown out of proportion beyond his control.
I wanted to capture the essence of chaos in my prints as the text has been manipulated a so that you could not exactly read it all the way you should, the text has been cut up & pasted back together again and then blocked out in sections. Perception is a major issue with in the story as Frederick was painted to be the bad person and that is not the case. When you block bits out or miss things you never get the full story & when over people get involved your present situation gets even more messy & in some cases you may not be able to fix what has happening around you.
